Winter Term 2012 Open Classes

Winter Term OPEN CLASSES - SATURDAY, March 24
FAMILIES ARE INVITED TO OBSERVE CLASSES IN ACTION

Please join us on Saturday, March 24 to observe your children in their final classes of the Winter 2012 term. This will be an informal sharing with an opportunity afterward to meet the teaching artists and talk about the work your children have been doing in their classes. Musical Theater Workshop will continue on into the Spring term (so please register to reserve your spot). Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre classes will begin again in September.

9:30 am to 12 noon            Musical Theater Workshop   
Singing, Dancing and Acting with Tonya Lynn, Allison Wagner, Abbi Novic and Sophia Levine

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's Dance Classes with Kerra Alexander and Cyd Pennington

12:30 to 1:30 pm            Ballet 1 (9 to 12 year olds)        

  1:30 to 2:30 pm            Pre-Ballet (6 to 8 year olds)                    

  2:30 to 3:15 pm            Creative Movement (4 and 5 year olds)
Dance class photos will be taken on Saturday, March 17th.

SPRING MUSIC RECITALS AND EL CEO CONCERT

SPRING RECITALS AND EL CEO CONCERT SCHEDULE
PRIVATE INSTRUMENT AND VOICE STUDENTS

Hope Academy students will perform in their Spring Recitals on Friday, March 23 at 6 pm (Elliot Beck's percussion students) and all day throughout the day on Saturday, March 31 (all other vocal and instrumental students).  EL CEO, Hope Academy's community engagement orchestra, will play a concert at 3:45, with special performances by Hope Academy teaching artists and graduating senior, Bethan Neely, on organ; followed by  Hope Academy's Teen Theater Company (HAT Co) performing their individual recitals at 5:00 pm.

WARHOL Fashion Intensive

Workshops for HAT Co design students begin this Monday, March 12

WARHOL FASHION INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS
Mondays – 3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2, 4/9
5 to 7 pm @ the Warhol Museum

Week 1 - Monday, March 12
Fashion Drawing. Pick theme or inspiration. Learn how to draw a figure.
Homework: One full illustration in color of your design, plus the inspiration. The inspiration can be from anywhere... fashion, nature, science, art, etc. Don't forget to bring your folders back next week.

Week 2 - Monday, March 19
Patterns and Draping. Introduction to the principles of patternmaking. Learn how flat patterns are made and how to take measurements. Choose garments to deconstruct and start design process..
Homework: Finish taking garments apart and be ready to start sewing at next class.

Week 3 - Monday, March 26
Recap on Patterns. Construction/Sewing. Crash course in construction including hand sewing, how to thread the sewing machine, proper use of color and foundation of manipulating patterns. 
Homework: Continue working on garments at home or on Saturday in HA studio

Week 4 - Monday, April 2
This session is from 2 to 7 pm because schools are off for Spring Break.
Open Lab. Hems and Zippers. Finishing garments and learning how to trim including hems and zippers.
Homework: Finish garments at home or on Saturday in HA studio.


Week 5 - Monday, April 9
Walk through, Runway, Hair/Makeup ideas, Open Lab


FRIDAY, MAY 4 - Youth Invasion Global Fashion Show
5:00 to 10:00 pm at the Warhol Museum
