EL CEO Performing in HEAR/NOW Fringe Festival

Hope Academy’s EL CEO (East Liberty Community Engagement Orchestra) will perform in the “fringe” part of the HEAR/NOW Festival of New Sound on Saturday, April 14 at 3:30 pm in the Sanctuary of East Liberty Presbyterian Church. This free program also includes a performance by percussionist, Mike Perdue (watch a video here).

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The HEAR/NOW Festival of New Sound runs on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14, with performances at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, Shadow Lounge and East Liberty Presbyterian Church.

“Kelly Strayhorn Theater, in collaboration with Alia Musica, presents Pittsburgh’s only festival dedicated to new music and sound arts. From the traditional to the obscure, Hear/Now showcases the diversity and breadth of music today.

This two-day festival brings together the most noteworthy acts in the constantly evolving genre of new music—which is by nature unpredictable and experimental—in an intimate and up-close setting. Some of the best and most talented musicians from Pittsburgh and beyond perform the full spectrum of new music: from ensembles to soloists, electronic to instrumental. Experience the evolution of music and discover what’s out there.”

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for EL CEO Performers

Your call time on Saturday, April 14 is 2:45 pm.  Please come to the Sanctuary to tune up and warm up before a brief rehearsal. Concert attire is black and white, similar to what was worn for the spring recital last week. Watch snippet of that performance HERE.
EL CEO performers will each receive a FESTIVAL PASS -- this means they can get in FREE to all of the programs in the two-day festival!

A list of the EL CEO performers will be at the door. Just say that you are from EL CEO to get in free to any program in the festival.

In addition, twenty $10 tickets will be held at the door for each performance for Hope Academy students and family members. These tickets are first-come-first-served, so get there early enough to get your reduced priced tickets.

Many of Hope Academy’s teaching artists will be performing in the festival including Deidre Huckabay, Elliot Beck, Jerry Gaudi and Naoko Hirai with Alia Musica, under the direction of Federico Garcia, on Friday at 8:00 pm; and Ashley Buckley with Freya Quartet on Saturday at 5:15 pm (free program at the Kelly Strayhorn).

EL CEO performers are encouraged to attend the Alia Musica performance on Friday evening at 8:00 pm. This portion of the program also includes Tim Munro from the Grammy-awarding winning group Eighth Blackbird.

This is an exciting opportunity for EL CEO. Invite your family and friends to the concert on Saturday and attend as much of the festival as you can. You won’t want to miss Alia Musica’s performance, with Tim Munro, on Friday at 8 pm!
